Optometric Assistant

Pullman Vision Source has an opening for a full time, multidisciplinary optical assistant to join our team. The key focus of this role is ensuring patients have an incredible experience during their visit by delivering an exceptionally high quality of care. The optical assistant position merges three traditional clinical roles: optometric technician, scribe, and optician/optical sales associate, with primary responsibilities as follows:

  • Performing optometric pretesting and administering additional testing under the doctor’s supervision
  • Medical scribing during examinations and appointments
  • Assisting patients with frame and lens selection best suited to their needs and lifestyle
  • Performing repairs and adjustments of patients’ current eyewear
  • Helping patients understand and utilize insurance benefits
  • Staying educated and up-to-date on current lens technology and offerings
  • Eyewear order placement within our electronic health record system (EHR) as well as with contracted vision plans
  • Scheduling and utilization of EHR to ensure alignment with optical orders
  • Additional duties assigned by management that may include additional cross-training and administrative support

Required qualifications:

  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Behavioral sensitivity, maturity and tact in addressing complex situations, keen at troubleshooting and handling issues efficiently and effectively
  • Strong work ethic and a high level of personal and professional integrity
  • High degree of computer literacy
  • Team player with strong interpersonal relationship skills applicable to coworkers, patients, and vendors

Preferred qualifications:

  • Licensed dispensing optician, apprentice optician, or optometric field experience preferred

Benefits include health insurance, PTO, paid holidays, and subsidized continuing education to become a certified paraoptometric and/or licensed dispensing optician. Pay is dependent on experience. A signing bonus starting at $1000 is available for licensed opticians.
